Meet a Rockville Employee: Cecil “C.J.” Rucker

Cecil “C.J.” Rucker

Cecil “C.J.” Rucker joined the City of Rockville in December. He works for the City of Rockville’s Housing and Community Services Division. We asked him a few questions about his job to introduce him to the Rockville community.

What did you do before joining the city?
I was part of a support team for Montgomery County Public Schools that specialized in special programs and recreational therapy. I also managed programs for Team Up for Success, a 501(c)(3) that focused on bringing equitable programs to underserved youth.

What does you position entail and is there anything specific you’d like to tell us about it?
I manage programs in the youth development sector for the City of Rockville’s Housing and Community Services Division. We have mentoring and academic support programs established in three elementary schools in Rockville city limits. We have more than 20 dedicated mentors who do a fantastic job of helping at-risk youth bridge gaps academically and socio-emotionally.

What else should readers know about you?
I live with my wife, Jade, and two sons: Cameron, who attends (and plays basketball) at St. Mary’s College of Maryland; and Jaron, who is 12 and also a terrific athlete. I played basketball for four years at the University of Notre Dame, before playing professional basketball in five countries in western Europe.
